Poor Deliverability Cause #3: Being Blacklisted

In the world of email, there are whitelists, greylists, and—of course—the dreaded blacklists. A blacklist is a list of domains and/or IP addresses reported to be “known” sources of spam. They are available to the public and exist to help mailbox providers protect their users from unwanted email. If your practices or your content look spammy, you could wind up being blacklisted, regardless of whether or not you’re a legitimate, permission-based sender.

Having your IP or domain added to a blacklist can have a serious impact on your sender reputation and therefore your email deliverability. And once you’re added to a blacklist, it’s not always easy to be removed. It’s important to understand why you’re on a blacklist. Rather than simply delisting yourself—an option offered by some blacklists—fix the root cause of the listing so your domain or IP addresses don’t end up on the blacklist again.
