Return Path Certification: 1.8 Billion Inboxes Served

Let’s start with a really big number. An enormous number, actually.
90 trillion. That is the number of email messages sent in 2009 according to the Radicati Group.
And yes that is “trillion.” With a “t.”
The very bad news is that about 95% of that is spam. I’ve seen estimates as low as 80% and as high as 99%, but most sources cite 95%. Which still leaves 4.5 trillion non-spam messages sent in a year.
And you think your inbox is crowded.
The good news is that Return Path Certification is helping receivers in a big way – positively identifying the much of the world’s good email so it can be confidently placed into inboxes with images and links working. ISPs can then focus on the remaining flood of messages, filter all of them in turn, and block, filter or disable images and links as needed for user safety and security reasons. In fact, through identifying the good stuff, we will certify more than 400 billion email messages this year – about 9% of that total.
Today, Return Path Certification covers 1.8 billion inboxes around the globe. And yes that is “billion.” With a “b.” Most people know we are the only place to get certification services for big players like Hotmail and Yahoo! and our footprint includes many more mailbox providers and ISPs, including AT&T, Bellsouth, Bell Canada, Cablevision, Verizon, Tiscali, Cox, Comcast, Time Warner Road Runner, British Telecom, and Telecom New Zealand. Our Certification program is also used by Cloudmark, the leading anti-spam platform for carriers and mailbox operators, which gives coverage at Earthlink, Virgin Mobile, Charter, Vodafone, Sky, Telus, Swisscom, BT Internet, Vodacom, Biglobe, and many more, extending our footprint even further around the world. But that is only a part of the story. Return Path’s Certification program is a whitelist that can be used by any ISP or mailbox provider to identify high-quality email. In fact, the whitelist is queried by more than two million domains every month, including top universities, government agencies, and Fortune 500 corporations.
With all that it’s not surprising that more than 1,000 of the world’s top brands trust their email communications to the Return Path Certification program.
