Return Path Research Shows Trusted Brands Are Wide Open to Phishing Attacks. Domain Assurance Can Change That.

Has your brand ever been the victim of a phishing attack at one of the major ISPs? If you are tempted to think “No way, not my company” I’m willing to bet, based on our most recent research, that you are wrong.

Return Path research found that little more than half of IPs with Sender Scores over 80 passed DKIM. That’s a low number for some of the best senders in the world, especially since DKIM was developed to help protect senders email from being compromised.

How do you know if you are protected? We can help. Today I am very happy to announce the commercial launch of Domain Assurance, a unique anti-phishing service from Return Path that blocks fraudulent emails for the first time at the gateway of major ISPs. Domain Assurance offers protection for your email, your brand and your customers.

With this new service, we are joining with ISPs in the fight against phishing to keep malicious email out of the inbox. For years phishing gangs have been holding trusted companies hostage and destroying brand reputation by sending fraudulent emails that look just like brands you trust and luring unsuspecting victims to download malware or give up sensitive information. Today we start to put an end to phishing and fight back – head on – at the gateway of the mailbox provider.

In fact, Domain Assurance helps everyone in the email universe.

First, and really most importantly, it helps the everyday email user to be protected from malicious email. Phishing and spoofing emails cause untold damage in the form of malware, viruses, identity theft and more. Consumers who’ve fallen victim to phishing attacks are also likely to shun email, particularly for commercial purposes.

Second, Domain Assurance is a huge help to ISPs and other mailbox providers by giving them a foolproof means to block malicious email that pretends to be from brand-name companies.

Third, Domain Assurance helps brand-name companies whose most precious asset – their brand name – is being used by criminals to dupe consumers with emails that purport to be from companies they know and trust.

As I wrote in my MediaPost column last week, I really believe that 2011 is the year that everyone connected with email needs to pay more attention to security. Email is an important channel for communication and commerce and its security and reliability cannot be underestimated.

If you are ready to get serious about the security of your brand, contact us here. We’d be happy to help.
